A convicted child molester who went missing halfway through his 2009 trial in Forsyth County was found and arrested in California on Thursday night. Marcus Shane Tillman, 42, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal’s Service after the television show, ”America’s Most Wanted”, received a tip that he was in San Francisco. Arrangements are currently being made to extradite Tillman back to Georgia. Tillman failed to appear for court on Feb. 27, 2009, and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has since been working with the U.S. Marshal’s Service to locate him. Their efforts included getting Tillman’s photo and story on “America’s Most Wanted” as well as posting the information on the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Web site’s Most Wanted list. Tillman left midway through his trial, after the prosecution rested and before the defense presented its case, according to Forsyth County News archives. Tillman, who had been under house arrest, removed an ankle monitor to get away. He was ultimately convicted for counts of child molestation, aggravated sodomy and cruelty to children, which stemmed from his arrest in November 2006 for molesting two boys, ages 3 and 6. Tillman was sentenced in March 2009 to 40 years in prison. Chief Assistant District Attorney Sandra Partridge, who prosecuted the case, was pleased with the news of his arrest on Friday.“Justice delayed is justice denied,” Partridge said. “It is about time that Mr. Tillman pays for the crimes he committed.” Staff writer Jennifer Sami contributed to this report
