A Forsyth County man was found guilty of statutory rape Friday following a weeklong trial. Todd Algren, 48, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for having sex with a 14-year-old student at his All About Diving business in 2008. He was found guilty of the charge Friday by a jury. The jury also found Algren not guilty of two counts of child molestation following accusations from his girlfriend’s daughter that he touched her inappropriately in 2009. Algren’s attorney, Jim Hardy, said he plans to appeal his client’s guilty conviction, but would not comment further on the verdict. Prosecuting attorney Ramsey Magaro said she is “pleased with the results.”“The jury did what we thought was right and we respect the jury’s verdict.” When a statutory rape occurs between a child under 16 years old and an adult older than 21, the minimum sentence is 10 years, with no minimum time to serve, meaning all 10 years can be served under probation. Sentencing is scheduled for June 26.
