The enticing smell of food hit the senses long before the tickets could be purchased for samples from local restaurants at the Flavors of Forsyth. The fourth annual United Way of Forsyth County fundraiser drew thousands on Saturday for live music, chalk art, kid’s activities, entertainment and, of course, food. From Italian and Indian to seafood and shortcake, the variety of fare from about 25 restaurants kept bellies and mouths full during the dinnertime event outside the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center. Chris Durre said he had some great jambalaya before sharing a piece of pizza with his daughter, Kaitlyn, who didn’t want to break between bites. Twins Cooper and Christian Callihan, almost 3, each enjoyed a blue cotton candy as their mom, Dana, reminded them to start eating from the top or they’d lose the whole thing. The airy treat was one of many desserts to choose from at the popular Ice Cream Social booth. Owner Cinda Reid said they’d had a steady line throughout the afternoon.“I enjoy all the people,” Reid said. “It’s so much fun.” At the judges table, lucky volunteers tasted entries from the participating booths. Personal chef Amy Churchill said she looked for originality in using ingredients and seasonal flavors. Though the tastes were enjoyable, the cause was her reason for coming, like the many volunteers in cheery yellow shirts.“This is a great way to give back to the community,” she said.
