Three local elected officials will give updates on their respective areas of influence this week. The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce will present the annual State of the Community Address beginning at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center. Cumming mayor H. Ford Gravitt, Forsyth County Commission Chairman Pete Amos and school board chairwoman Darla Light each will speak about projects in their different areas. Laura Stewart, the chamber’s director of events, said the address is one of the most well-attended chamber events each year. “It’s one of those annual events that if people don’t see it, they’re suddenly like, ‘Oh isn’t it time for State of the Community?’” Stewart said. “It’s a very well-known and well-attended event.” She said each year’s event draws about 250 to 300 people.“We are probably looking at closer to 300,” Stewart said, noting that the event provides useful information for anyone with any interest in the county. “I think that everyone has kind of a vested interest in this event because it obviously touches on all aspects of life in Forsyth County,” she said. “It’s an important one certainly from the chamber’s prospective for business owners, but it’s also important just for a resident to hear from these officials and what’s going on because it’s all certainly things that are going to effect the day-to-day of Forsyth County.” The event, which includes lunch, is $45 for chamber members and $65 for non-members. This will be the first State of the Community Address for both Amos and Light. “I know just from the interaction that I’ve had with both of them so far that they are both very excited for the opportunity to be a part of it,” Stewart said. She added that this year’s address will be unique in that all three speakers are Forsyth natives with many previous family generations in the county.“I just think that’s going to be really interesting to watch them do this,” she said. “I think it’ll put a really interesting spin on it this year.”
