Angela Hurt has been hired as the girls basketball head coach at Forsyth Central. Hurt replaces Andy Martin, who coached the Lady Bulldogs for five seasons and led the team to three consecutive postseason appearances. Hurt, who will also serve as a teacher at Central, graduated from Georgia State University in 1998, where she was a member of the Lady Panthers’ basketball team. She was hired as the first girls basketball coach at Alpharetta High School when it opened in 2004, where she remained until 2012. Hurt suffered through five consecutive losing seasons with the Lady Raiders before leading the program to three state tournament appearances — advancing to the second round of the postseason twice — and a region championship in 2012. "Starting the program at Alpharetta was one of the hardest things I have ever encountered in my coaching career," Hurt said in a press release. "But we did things the right way and worked hard and eventually it paid off. "Growing up in a small town and a place where community and the people who live in it are so important is what excites me about the Forsyth Central community — being a part of something like that again." She began her teaching and coaching career at Woodland High School in Cartersville. During her six-year stay at Woodland, she coached basketball, golf, softball and volleyball. "I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead at Forsyth Central," Hurt said. "I love being involved in young ladies’ lives in a positive way and contributing to the school community. Although I have coached a list of sports, basketball is where my heart lies."
