The Forsyth County Board of Tax Assessors approved an exempt property application for a home donated to a nonprofit organization. The property in east Forsyth was donated in 2012 to the Georgia Foundation for Public Education, which supports Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, Georgia Academy for the Blind, Georgia Governor’s Honors Program and Georgia School for the Deaf. The board voted 4-0 on Thursday, with member Rick O’Brien absent, to approve the exempt property application.Jamie Mosley, of the property evaluation office, said the foundation applied based on a state law.“They can receive gifts to sell to help fund different programs,” Mosley said. “They can give this to the foundation, who can then turn around and sell it and make money to go back to the education fund for these different schools.”The group has requested that the property on Hulsey Road, off of Samples Road, be tax-exempt under their ownership, she said.Member Phillip Winter said the effort appeared “purely charitable.”Charles Meagher recalled a previous property donation and believed it also received tax-exempt status until it was sold. The Hulsey home is at the end of the dirt road and sits on 1.17 acres. The market value was assessed at nearly $42,000 in 2012.
