Shots were exchanged this morning between a local man and two Georgia State Patrol employees. Capt. Keith Canup said the man, identified as Leighton Beaux Marchetta, 21, pulled up in a truck at about 8 a.m. to the patrol office on Cleveland Highway and started firing from a large caliber rifle near the building that houses the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team. Two troopers who were showing up for work shot back at Leighton, who was injured. Leighton was taken under armed guard to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was in satisfactory condition this afternoon, according to hospital officials. The troopers were not injured. The investigation is continuing. “There's going to be some search warrants served on some residences,” Canup said.
