Erica Fried, Forsyth Central Creatrix is a performance of all of the disciplines of the fine art departments embracing all the growth of Forsyth Central. The senior students displayed wonderful talent, creation and creativity in the student-run production. The show had it all: drumline, graphic design, drama, chorus, band, etc. This was the first year of the production and it’s said to become an annual event. You may still see the show this Wednesday in IF if you are a student at Central or this weekend in the Performing Arts Center if you are not. I highly suggest coming to see the show; it was amazing and everyone involved should be extremely proud! Kevin Lee, Lambert This week I wanted to find something non-sports related to show that there are plenty of awesome stuff going on at Lambert that doesn't involve a whistle, but I feel obligated to highlight two incredible events that occurred over the weekend. First, Lambert boys’ basketball, who trailed Alpharetta by 14 points in the fourth quarter but came back to take Alpharetta to not only one, but two overtimes. Lambert had the last possession of the game down by two, and Tanner Hall just missed a game winning 3-pointer as time expired. The atmosphere and intensity of the last two minutes of that game was the most intense sporting event I've ever been to in high school and being a sports fanatic. However an even bigger milestone was completed by Lambert's boys' and girls’ swim and dive teams. Lambert swept the county. It was the girls’ team’s sixth county championship in a row; the school has only been open for six years. The Lady Longhorns could be the first Lambert sport to win three state championships in a row, and the after talking to Ashley Mallon, a senior swimmer who signed with Western Kentucky, she is very confident they can complete the three peat next weekend. Alli Prater, North Forsyth Another game, another record set for Caroline Bowns. In the Lady Raider's dominating 56-33 win at Northview, Bowns sank nine 3-pointers to tie the school record for most 3s made in a game. Shooting 44 percent from behind the arc on the year, she finished the game with 29 points and added this to her collection of records at North Forsyth. Congratulations, Caroline, and Go Raiders! Caitlin Randazza and Dani Quintana, Pinecrest Academy This past week Pinecrest Academy took high school students to Washington D.C. to participate in the March For Life. During the week-long trip, students visited the Holocaust Museum, Arlington Cemetery and the National Mall. Students also attended mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, a youth mass and rally at the Verizon Center and walked with more than 700,000 people in the fight for life. Erin Loggins, South Forsyth The only thing more shocking than Georgia's bipolar weather was South Forsyth's performance at the regional DECA competition. No shocker that South beat Lambert in total number of awards at this competition. Regional is just the start of the DECA competition season. If you didn't know, DECA is a marketing program that gives the students a chance to work on real-world projects for companies in the community. South Forsyth has been crowned the largest DECA chapter in the world since 2011. With regionals out of the way the next stop is the State competition in March in downtown Atlanta. With your Buzzmaker completing a 30-page Operations Research Manual, I cannot wait for the state competition! As always, Go South! Dori Butler, West Forsyth Having conditioned for weeks, soccer players all over the school were anxious for tryouts. Even though every player exhibited quality talent on that field, the final cuts were made, and the West Forsyth soccer team was established. It is now the coaches’ turns to prepare as they head into the season. Boys’ soccer coach Ahmed Gathing looks forward to the first home game against Grayson on Tuesday, Feb. 10, which gives the teams less than a month to fine tune their skills. Keeping the real goals of the season in mind – getting to state and leaving an impact – Gathing said, “We respect everyone, we have a good group this year…I just hope that teams—when they play us—they’ll know that we were there."
