CUMMING — The holiday season is often a busy time of year for hobbyists looking to create gifts and decorations from Thanksgiving to Christmas, but a local library branch wants talented crafters to share their expertise with the community. The Cumming Library is holding a Hobby Share Fair Holiday Edition from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 7. Participation and attendance are free for all ages of library patrons and those interested in learning a new hobby or craft. Aside from offering new crafters a way to learn certain skills and techniques, participating in the fair allows crafters, hobbyists and other vendors a chance to share their expertise and passion with other like-minded people. The fair will include both displays and demonstrations of spinning, knitting, jewelry making, paper crafts, dream-catchers, needlework and crocheting. Vendors will offer demonstrations, and some will also be leading hands-on “make-and-take” projects in which patrons may try their hand at a particular art or craft by creating a small sample piece to take home.“We’re excited to welcome the Forsyth County Rug Hookers to this special holiday Hobby Share Fair,” said Jennifer Kovac, information services supervisor at the Cumming Library.“This group meeting twice each month at the Sharon Forks Library and dedicates their meetings to learning about rug-making techniques and crafting beautiful rugs in pictures and patterns.” Spinning the Moon, a local knitting and spinning organization, as well as other local fiber artists, jewelry-makers and paper crafters are expected to participate, according to the library.“We find that patrons really enjoy doing a make-and-take mini-project with the vendors,” Kovac said. “It gives our patrons a chance to try a craft under another crafter’s experienced guidance and without having to invest so much in tools or supplies to get started.” For more information, contact Kovac at (678) 513-9393 or register online at forsythpl.org.
