NORTH FORSYTH — The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board voted 3-0 on Tuesday night to approve a revised master plan for Lanierland Park.“We had to put a septic field in and that took up some of the land,” said Tommy Bruce, parks interim director. “[We] had everything in there, but we just had to move it around.” The new park in northeast Forsyth, formerly the site of a popular concert venue, will feature four fields, a recreation center, tennis courts, playgrounds, spray-pad, archery range and four baseball fields with batting cages. The plan was shown to the county commission during a work session earlier in the day, and will be up for approval during the next work session. The board also was updated on the other planned parks: Sawnee Mountain Preserve, Eagle's Beak Park and Matt Community Park. The preserve soon will go out to bid for contracts to add a parking lot, two picnic shelters, hiking trails and playground. Eagle's Beak is going through permitting review and issues related to its entrance. Once completed, the park will feature a canoe launch on the Etowah River. Matt is also dealing with issues with its entrance and topographic surveying work. Plans call for four rectangle fields, a pavilion and hiking trails. The preserve likely will be finished first, followed by Eagle's Beak, Matt Community and Lanierland.
