FORSYTH COUNTY — About 70 teachers and administrators from across the state recently gathered in Forsyth County for the Georgia STEM Leadership Summit. During the event, they discussed teaching strategies that can be used in the classroom to prepare students for careers in STEM — short for science, technology, mathematics and engineering — fields. Forsyth Central High School is home to a STEM academy. This was the first time Forsyth had played host to the summit, which also gave participants a chance to use technology in a model classroom provided by Discovery Education.“In the model classrooms, educators experienced firsthand the Discovery Education Techbook Series, a fully interactive digital solution that replaces traditional textbooks and can be used on any device,” said Rob Warren, director of partnerships for Discovery Education.“It supports multiple learning styles with interactive content that specifically appeals to digital learners, and also includes real-time updates that allow teachers to incorporate current events and cutting-edge thinking into their curricula.” Noting the ever-changing nature of technology, Warren said the summit helps keep teachers current on how best to prepare their students for future STEM careers.“The areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics are rapidly evolving,” he said.“It can be very helpful for school districts to partner with leading groups like Discovery Education, which can provide educators with the support they need to transform classroom instruction and student outcomes, as well as set students on the path for STEM careers.”
