PREP ROUNDUP: North baseball outlasts Johns Creek in 12 innings

BASEBALL Northview 4, Forsyth Central 0 The Bulldogs’ offense struggled in a Region 7-AAAAA loss Wednesday at home. Central fell to 7-7 overall and 5-5 in the region. Nick Verbeke took the loss for the Bulldogs, who managed just four hits against Northview. Lambert 17, Centennial 2 The No. 1-ranked Longhorns cruised to a Region 6-AAAAAA win Wednesday at home. Lambert improved to 13-0 overall and 5-0 in the region. Sophomore Seth Beer (3-0) got the win on the mound and was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs at the plate. Jake Chickowski was 2-for-2 with a home run and five RBIs, Tucker Maxwell went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs and Eric Furphy went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. North Forsyth 4, Johns Creek 3, 12 inns. Brant Stark delivered for the Raiders in a thrilling Region 6-AAAAAA victory Wednesday on the road. North improved to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the region. Stark broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the 12th inning with an RBI double that scored Max Bening. Cory Campbell pitched the final 3 2/3 innings for the win. Bailey Mauldin led the Raiders at the plate going 3-for-6, while Matt Heard went 3-for-4. West Forsyth 9, South Forsyth 3 Hampton McConnell’s big blast helped the Wolverines cruise to a Region 6-AAAAAA victory Wednesday at home. West improved to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the region, while South fell to 3-10 and 0-4. McConnell had two hits for West, including a grand slam. Nate Schmitz also added a two-out single that drove in two runs. Connor Milford earned the win allowing three runs, one earned, five innings. Austin Shea pitched a scoreless two innings of relief. BOYS GOLF Lambert 156, Alpharetta 157 The Longhorns edged the Raiders in a Region 6-AAAAAA match Wednesday at Laurel Springs. Tanner Casey shot a 37 to lead the Longhorns, while Jordan Baker shot a 39. GIRLS LACROSSE Lambert 9, North Gwinnett The Lady Longhorns used strong second-half defense for a non-area win Wednesday on the road. Lambert improved to 8-2. Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Berman had 10 saves and helped keep North Gwinnett scoreless the entire second half. Senior Emily Brennan led the Lady Longhorns with three goals. Sophomore Jessica Beck had two goals, sophomores Molly Walz and Ali Wilson and freshman Cloe Latini each scored a goal, and freshman Peyton Smith had one goal and four assists. West Forsyth 21, Forsyth Central 2 The Lady Wolverines dominated the Lady Bulldogs in a non-area game Wednesday on the road. Monica Martelli led West with four goals. Erika Cross and Sarah Grady had three goals for the Lady Wolverines, Sydney Frye, Kelly Guthrie and McKinley Puckett had two goals each while Erin Behrhorst, Peyton Erb, Channing Milford, Arielle Pagley and Amelia Steele each scored a goal.
