FORSYTH COUNTY -- The president of one of America’s most well-known food retailers will be the speaker during an upcoming business event presented by the University of North Georgia. Kat Cole, president of Cinnabon, will serve as keynote speaker during the college’s Inspirational Leaders Award Luncheon, set for 11:30 a.m. April 8 at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center. Cole has more than 17 years of multi-disciplined experience in change management, communications, sales, operations and multi-channel brand management and leadership. She has been featured as a guest on several national news networks and was also featured on an episode of CBS’ television series “Undercover Boss.” In addition, her personal story, business approach and perspective on leadership have all been the subjects of feature articles in business and trade publications. Donna Mayo, dean of the UNG Mike Cottrell College of Business, said university officials were thrilled to learn of Cole’s participation in the luncheon.“Kat is a tremendous leader, both in her organization and the non-profit organizations that she has founded and supports,” Mayo said in a statement. “She is a true inspiration to the next generation of business professionals and leaders.” Added Ruben Boling, director of the Center for the Future of North Georgia: “Kat Cole herself is truly an inspirational leader. She encourages and moves people to reach higher, go further and make a greater contribution to their business and community than they thought possible.” Besides Cole’s address, the April 8 event will also recognize two local residents during the presentation of the North Georgia Inspiration in Business and the North Georgia Inspiration in Community awards.“Many great business leaders serve as the inspiration to our students and the communities around them,” said Boling, noting that nominations are being accepted through Sunday for the awards. “Both are … for individuals who move other people to go beyond and be the best they can be, either in the business world or community.“We currently have nominations from several different counties, including Forsyth. Nominations are open for individuals across the northeast Georgia region.” Tickets to the event are $35, which includes lunch, and can be purchased at www.ung.edu/cfng. Boling said he and other organizers are expecting more than 300 people to attend. The event is part of the Mike Cottrell College of Business’ Cottrell Speaker Series, which brings in business professionals from around the state, nation and globe to share their experience and expertise with UNG students, faculty and staff, as well as the community.
