Lambert (18-4, 11-0) cruised to a 70-48 victory over North Forsyth (1-21, 1-10) on Friday night for The Raiders, who earned their first victory of the season last Friday, has since dropped two straight. The Longhorns, on the other hand, have now won 11 of their last 12 and sit atop the Region 6-AAAAAA standings. Due to the recent snow storm that blanketed much of Georgia, neither team was able to practice Tuesday through Thursday. That lack of preparation showed in the first half, as both clubs were a little sluggish and had issues controlling the ball. Ultimately, both Lambert and North were able to shake off the rust and give fans an entertaining second half, but the Longhorns’ pure skill proved to be too much for the struggling Raiders. "I felt like both teams came out and played a little sloppy," said Lambert head coach Scott Bracco. "We both probably had a feeling it would happen with the time off, but I was proud of our guys. "They played hard. I asked them to bring energy and they did. We have to do a better job on the defensive end but overall I’m proud ofthe way they played tonight." Six-foot-6 senior Trevor Shipes led the way for Lambert, finishing with a triple-double: 12 rebounds, 10 points and 10 blocks. Junior Jake Morris looked good as well, putting up 17 points—a game-high. Morris provided a spark at the point guard position that set the tone for the entire contest. "At times, spurts we played great team defense," Bracco said. "That’s what we need to improve on to finish out the region." While this was a convincing win for the Longhorns, it certainly wasn’t perfect in the eyes of their coach. Bracco sees a lot of room for improvement on defense, as North was able to take advantage of some Lambert miscues. Sophomore Nick Cunningham had a particularly good night for the Longhorns, putting up 16 points. His ability to score from beyond the arc as well as down low helped him stand out as he exposed some of Lambert’s holes. Additionally, sophomore point guard Chad Bureau finished with nine points. Lambert returned to action on Saturday for a crucial region matchup against Centennial, which finished too late for this edition. North will seek its second win of 2013-14 on Monday against Chattahoochee.
