The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has identified Sunday’s drowning victim at Lake Lanier as Marines Rosa Dillon of Cumming. Dillon, 59, who could not swim, fell off a dock while trying to grab a turtle in the water, her husband, Dan Dillon, told rescuers. Unable to swim himself, he jumped in after her to try to help, he said. A neighbor heard them screaming and ran down to the dock to help and then called Forsyth County 911, according to a DNR news release this morning. Authorities received the call at 6:09 p.m. When emergency rescuers arrived, they found both Marines Dillon and the husband a few feet away from the shore. Rescuers said the victim was unresponsive, and they started CPR. The husband was conscious and responsive, but appeared to be exhausted. Both were taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, according to the DNR. Dillon was later pronounced dead.
