Forsyth County commissioners held two public hearings Tuesday on the proposed property tax rate for 2014, which is tentatively set to remain the same as in 2013. Just one resident spoke, and he supported the proposal. The final public hearing and vote will take place July 18. Also during their meeting, county commissioners: * Postponed to July 18 a decision on proposed changes to the unified development code to further consider the planning board’s recommendation on minimum lot sizes and home square footage, as well as maximum density for residential zoning district. * Conducted the first public hearing for potential changes to the county alcohol ordinance that would streamline the process for violations, allow administrative approval for license name or organization changes and lower the license fee for wholesalers. The modifications set automatic suspensions of employee sales permits for underage sales violations, with an option to appeal to the commission. * Approved the guaranteed maximum price for construction of the jail and courthouse project at about $81.8 million. The project, for which construction begins Monday, was approved by voters in November 2011 as part of a 1-cent sales tax extension. * Delayed a public hearing on a request for an amendment to a master planned district in southwest Forsyth for Seven Oaks/Devin McGinnis. The planned commercial and residential community was first approved in 2006, but hasn’t been developed. Note: All votes were 4-0, with Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills absent, unless otherwise noted.
